The Texas Wheat Producers Board, established in 1971, was developed to provide support and funding for wheat research, education and market development.

The Board currently operates on a two-cent per bushel check-off fund. Fifteen wheat producers sit on the board, attend quarterly meetings, manage the collection and expenditure of funds, and represent Texas wheat producers at several local and national conferences, meeting and symposiums.

Each member serves a six-year term, representing one of four state-wide districts.

Market Development
The Texas Wheat Producers Board is committed to ensuring the competitiveness of Texas wheat in national and international markets. These goals are accomplished through unique partnerships with U.S. Wheat Associates, Plains Grains Inc. and the Wheat Foods Council.

U.S. Wheat Associates (USW) is the export development organization representing the U.S. wheat industry. USW promotes global exports by demonstrating the consistent quality, reliability and availability of U.S. wheat. With the support of 19 state wheat commissions and matching contributions from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, USW conducts market analysis, trade servicing, technical assistance and consumer promotion in 130 countries. Currently, Texas Wheat board members Ken Davis and Gary Murphy serve on the board of directors for USW.
Plains Grains Inc. (PGI) is a wheat marketing entity focused on developing and enhancing marketing opportunities for Hard Red Winter Wheat. PGI aggressively seeks and develops relationships with foreign customers to increase Hard Red Winter Wheat sales. Scott McGarraugh represents the Texas Wheat Producers Board on the PGI board of directors.
The Wheat Foods Council is an industry-wide partnership dedicated to increasing wheat consumption through nutrition information, education, research and promotional programs. Producer contributions are matched dollar-for-dollar by milling and baking industries in support of the Wheat Foods Council. Texas Wheat board member David Moore is currently serving as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Wheat Foods Council.
